Filters?

I've never owned/used a filter before and I'm just wondering if someone can give me some info on one?

I can get a CIR-Polarizing filter at work for $50 cad. Basically what I need to know is that a fair price for something like that? And does anyone have any experience with one?

If you have any other filter recommendations let me know. I want something to help with reflections from snow,water and so on. And also something to help from having the sky completely over exposed.

it depends on what kind of quality that you want - a really good filter is going to cost you - but if your lenses are the lower end lenses, then yes, it is fine... the higher end lenses need the filters to compliment - no use paying for good glass if you are going to cover it with a so-so filter.

Yes circular polarizers will aid in everything you mentioned. $50 sounds about right for a 52mm size.... usually about $100 for 77mm...

the thin multilayered 77's can go up to $300


Don't forget to spin it after you mount it to record the proper effect.

Thats how much I spent on my 40-150 lens haha.

I guess I'll get that filter and go for a drive tomorrow and take some pictures. I'll post some up tomorrow night if I come home with anything good.

Always buy the best filters you can afford. The lens you have today might not warrant it, but the one you buy next week might, and why buy another filter? My 77mm B+W MRC set me back a tad over $250 with tax, but the results are worth every penny!

Just reading through a magazine and came upon a filter..the Singh-Ray Vari-N-Duo filter.

Wondering if anyone has used this? Is a fitler that does two things like this wise? Or am I just asking for trouble...lol..

I'm not sure about this one; Singh-Ray filters are the gold-standard of camera filters, and the Vari-ND is by all accounts an awesome piece of kit, but I don't always want a CPOL when I'm using my NDs, and at almost $500, it's a lot to pay for a filter.
