shots to learn by

Some shots I took while on vacation in Bryson City, NC.

Looks like a lovely area in which to have a camera

It's so hard to get a great shot of the 'Looking up at the tree tops' type shot. So often this scene looks outstanding to our eyes at the time but somehow loses something when we take the photo and view it later.
You haven't done a bad job here at all though. Having the more obvious tops off center seems to help with the composition.
I find this shot unexciting to me, but can't really criticize it either. Perhaps a little more contrast?

Shot 2 is cool. What stories that old truck could tell huh? Lying there on it's bed of moss as it rusts quietly away.
I can see lots of shots here just screaming to be taken apart from this over view shot.
But this one is nice as is also.

Shot 3 is another nice shot. I wonder how many leaves are actually in that photo?
This one appears to lack a little contrast again.
About the only suggestion I have here is whether a portrait orientation might have been better? This would have eliminated a bit more of the bush which isn't adding to the shot and made more of a feature out of the path itself I think.

shot 1 - interesting composition here, and my fave of the 3 shots - I like all the different angles of the trees. I'd say just watch the highlights here. The PP is tricky but some more work here (mostly fixing the right side which looks a bit washed out) could make this sing louder

2 - This shot is interesting and would benefit from a contrast boost. I so agree with MA - many other exciting shooting angles with a subject like this.

3- a nice selection of tones in this shot. Could also use a contrast boost.

Hi Bandit, I like the old fire truck shot the best. This is the type of auto I could spend hours shooting. I have noticed that when I send photos to this forum that they loose saturation so if I remember I over saturate before I send. Gale

my favourite of all of these is the truck shot. I can see lots that you can do with the shot you took, as well as a bunch of potential

I agree with MA's comments in all of them. What program are you using for processing?

I'm using Picasa. Hopefully when i get a new computer I'll be able to upgrade to something better. For me at this moment, Picasa pretty much does enough.
