I would have tried to stay in lightroom myself using the local adjust brush and turned down brightness and clarity, and maybe have feathered the edge.

Honestly though I think the original is fine. I had to compare one of the adjusted images against the original to see what the issue was. I didn't find it a distraction at all.

Great capture Marko. The water droplets are cool.

Cool thread! That's a tough fix. I've been staring at it for a while now, then studying the fixes presented and have come to these conclusions. Had I never been privy to the first image you posted, had you thrown up instead one of the three presented fixes, I probably wouldn't really notice the problem by being unaware there ever was one. My other conclusion was that for me to improve or raise the bar on the "fix" would take more time than I have to spare. For the record...My fix was out there! Don't even ask...I estimated about six hours of frustrating work. Man, when I go deep, they just can't build the mineshaft ahead of me fast enough It's a cool thread because it's just wonderful to see the differing way people work the problem. I hope more try! I know I will but don't wait up

marko, my edit was similar to the others. i changed the contrast a little bit and darkened the sink portions that sandwiched the ear and dodged the edges of the ear for more separation. i also increased the contrast on the flowing water and droplets and added some slight details on the water spout.
