Overall, very pleasing. Nice lines in the bridge. Good silhouettes. Do you have any with less sky and more water? That would be interesting to compare.
No, I had been down on the river paths and on another bridge for a few hours. It was very cold and I was starting to freeze up. As I was heading back, the sky turned this incredible but subtle shade of pink/lavender so I stopped to silhouette the bridge against the sky. I think the processing turned out very well and conveys what I saw though.
I like this image and the composition here, i see where wicked is coming from, and i too would have liked to compare....but for me this works just as it is. I LOVE the hunched figure at center right
You know how some images just seem to be laden with themes and symbolism, this is one of those images for me and i eat this stuff up.
This is a very strong image for me.
Hope that helps - Marko

"You have to milk the cow quite a lot, and get plenty of milk to get a little cheese." Henri Cartier-Bresson from The Decisive Moment.
I love the colours in the sky here and the quiet, dark tones of the ground/bridge. Really evokes a feeling of quiet solitude for me. I wonder if the composition would be better if you cropped in so the bridge tower was in the left 1/3 (rule of thirds)?
I will give it a try. The reason it has been sitting on my computer is because I kind of rushed it and ended up with it very unstraight so I had to crop it bit to straighten it. :( Then I was kind of preoccupied with the shape of the bridge overall before coming to the conclusion that the people on it were a stronger element.
I really like this. I have to say the original crop works better for me. Maybe because I prefer wider crops rather than square ones. Also in the original crop I like how the main pillar is in the middle, making it look like the the wire is holding the picture together, also forming a pyramid shape, which is very pleasing.
What I like about the closer second crop is, how the silhouettes of the people on the bridge are bigger and thus get more attention. So I feel storywise (if that's a term) the new crop is stronger, since the focus shifts to the people on the bridge especially the hunched figure Marko pointed out. Whereas the original is more a beautifully captured landscape.
So in case of a story picture I'd consider sacrificing even more of the - without a doubt - beautiful but in this case recessive sky in favor for the story. (I'd probably cut closely above the pillar,JMO)
In case of a more landscape oriented theme, I really like the first one just as it is. If anything, I would also liked to have a look at a comparison with more of the river beneath. But it works nicely as it is.
Great work!
I love the new crop. It really works for me. While it's interesting as a landscape it's the people that really do it for me here. Very nice stuff, JAS.
