Cartoons in a stream

I mentioned on a previous thread that I was taking pictures of an old age home that burned down, and found these (and many other) burnt pages from a book floating in a stream.

I found it odd how perfectly these were burned. I also had no idea how to approach shooting them. I tried to preserve some detail in the stream bed below.

I haven't done anything to them yet in PS. These were compressed a little small using picasa.

I was a little disappointed at how they are framed, but they kept moving.

Any suggestions on processing? or editing? I was thinking of lighting up the water.

I'm looking at this on my old laptop...so it's not showing up great....but from the detail I can see....

These are very interesting to me. I would have loved to have seen these floating in the water but the water looks too dark. So I think your first instinct is correct and I'd try to lighten up the water as well.

Sorry I missed these, yes they could be very cool, just think you may have gotten to close and removed them in the river look. I would try and get some colour in the water, looks to black. Nice detail in the photos and love the idea your trying to achieve and it could still work. Did you get these at any other angle showing them in the river.

yes i have several angles and also some different cartoons and other text documents....the detail of the characters is lost in the wider shots... these ones here were the sillyest.... I haven't had any time to p.s. them... looking at them again i notice a daylight reflection in the water which really bothers me..... seperating the burnt portions of the paper from the dark water may also be a challenge....

most likely shelf the editing on these until a rainy week...

Yes the post editing process seems to be the more difficult to sit down and do sometimes, I am about to head out into the sun again even though I have 15 or 16 photos I really like and need to work on, but like you waiting for a rainy day to do them.
