Dramatic Alberta Skies

This is one type of photo that I would like to get better at. I feel something is off everytime i snap one. I am not sure if it is compostion, camera settings or post processing. Any input would be great. Thanks.

Lovely skies. The building is a bit dark for me, and I think maybe a little less foreground would make a stronger composition.

I agree with Antz. Maybe taking it from different angles too would give you what you are looking for. the sky is quite stunning though

I like it but if you want to make the skies the central focus of the shot,(I just use that because the title is dramatic Alberta skies) you need to include more sky in the shot. right now as I see it, looking at it horizontally you have 1/3 foreground, 1/3 old barn, and 1/3 sky in this photo...which is great but it looks too structured IMO. I do like the way you have tied the old barn into the shot but I think (my hunch is anyway) what you are wanting is a wider angle here.
If it were me, I would move closer to the shot, use a wider angle and lower the shot down closer to the ground. I would keep the barn where it is but try to include much more sky and much less grass. I would also lighten it up at tad as well.

Thanks everyone for the insight. I quite agree with you all. I think if I go out there again on a good cloud day and use a wide angle lens maybe a fill flash and from a lower sideways angle it would look a lot better. I will post a result here when I get it. Thanks again.
