Thoughts on this head shot. I thought it was nice, not typical as she's looking away. She hated it!

I can tell you why she would not like it. She is a pretty girl and this photo does not show her off to the best advantage. The first really noticeable thing is the hotspot on her forehead at the part. It accentuates the area and makes it look all shiny and big. Turning her the other way would have made her hair look fuller and a little light on her hair would then look nice. The next thing I see is a very shiny nose. Shiny spots pop, dark areas recede. The third is perhaps a bit too big of a smile. She looks happy but maybe she would have like a slightly less gummy smile. Sorry to be blunt but those are the things that make her "not like the photo" in my opinion. One other thing thart makes a photo appealing is a catch light in the models eyes which I do not see here.
I think raiven has hit all the same points I noticed as well. The only thing I would add is that an off-camera look is not necessarily a bad thing as it makes you wonder what she's looking at and it kinda draws you into the image. The expression to me is great as it shows a candid emotion. The highlights are a distraction.
Overall a good image. I think, however, you can do better. Happy shootin'!
I think that many people (perhaps just females) hate photos of themselves. What I realized is that when you look back on it you think 'gee I didn't look that bad. NOW I look awful'. So when I take a friend's photo and she has a kniption, I tell her to not look at it until 5 years from now

A painter takes their vision and makes it a reality. A photographer takes reality and makes it their vision.
Ha! Ha! She does look like she knows something funny that you are not in on.
Thanks for the input! BTW she HATES getting her photo taken!! You can tell by the photos in her parents house
She was in a really bad mood last night and I had just finished cropping that shot from this one thinking it was pretty good and might cheer her up. Unfortunately it didn't.
PS I'm not sure why Vancouver is sliding to the right but i can tell you it looks even more odd to have the buildings straight and her falling hard to the left.... the reason i cropped it.
