I took this photo from about a 15 foot range with my Nikon D70s for a charity Hockey Game, can anyone give me feedback as to what you think I'm amateur but dying to get into pro.

First off - keep taking pictures! That's the only way to learn.
Buy some books or magazines of the types of photography you love and see which photographs you like and try to figure out why.
Before I give you honest feedback let me just say that if you were NOT on the ice and did not have the 'model's attention - than this is a very hard shoot. If you were on the ice and had the model's attention then you should have experimented with all kinds of different angles.
For me, this photo is not at all engaging. This is a portrait and yet there is no connection between the subject and the viewer. That makes it not very interesting. It doesn't tell any story....
