How bad is the difference? Keep in mind an 8 meg + RAW sized down to a few hundred JPG pixels won't be identical. But it should still be very good.

Maybe check the colour space are you working in lightroom or photoshop?

Good point about the reduction from RAW to jpg .. but I cant help but think it must be something else. The difference in the oranges and reds from lightroom to here is really dramatic. In lightroom it REALLY pops.

I tried all of the different colour space settings... so Im kinda stuck. Oh well - thanks again for your advice. much appreciated.

Love the first shot. Would have chosen the 2nd shot had it had the same strong colouring and dramatism in the sky as the first because I like the rocks in the foreground more.

Can only suggest the noise is from the ISO setting being too high? I usually set mine to 100 or 200 and use a longer exposure to avoid it. I realise if clouds are racing around up there or the water is moving too quickly for your intended result though that a longer exposure wouldn't be possible.
