Thorns

I'm hoping for some crit on this photo as I'm not too sure what to make of it. I like it, but I'm not sure if it works and if it doesn't what doesn't work...The idea I had when I shot it was to play opposites (hard and soft) as in I like the way the harshness of the thorns plays against the softness of the background and the shot in particular...
I was hoping it worked but I'm not too sure...anyone else?

I like the second one more. Personal choice, I would of loved to have seen the whole thorn stem in focus with everything behind it out of focus.

I too prefer the second shot, although it is grainy. But in the first picture the leaf ist distracting.
