cool but the color is awful and the perspective is crooked. shoulda moved down a couple inches and to the right maybe a half foot and then compensated by tilting the lens up and to the left ((obviously)) then maybe included a tad bit more of the environment if the subject of the environment was the door and the locker thing or w/e that is

I think you have the right idea! The colors are a bit saturated. To me, it looks like you took the photo at an angle, not dead straight facing it so that maybe the sense of crookedness. I think that you are off to a great start! And this crazy black and white chickey with selective coloring thinks the mailbox would look great that way.. ha ha.

I agree that it is very slightly crooked, but it is very obvious because the lines are so close to the edge. There are also a couple of red things at the very bottom on the floor that are distractions. Same for the piece of wall on the bottom right. These are all easily fixable with crop and straighten. I like the strong colours, but it might also work desaturated, or maybe even selective colouring?

I am going to change the first post to one with the colours as I intended as well as staightening the best I can from that shot. It still needs straightening but I had trouble loading the colors to flickr, but they are better now or at least as I intended.

To Sterile, the newspaper box is usually covered with posters, and so would the wall in an urban environment along with a ton of graffiti. You spray paint all that? Looks like someone got some spray paint bombs and sprayed it.

Minimalism is the keyword here, Acadie. The newspaper box is one that merchants use. Not a public box. But the photo was taken in downtown Calgary where they have bylaws against graffiti. Merchants are required to paint out graffiti, hence the blotchy paint. But I did oversaturate the colors intentionally as realism was not my goal, stark empty spaces was.

And once it stops raining, and I have a day off, I will go back and try to get a straighter shot.

Lol, Andz, the brownish red things are cigarrette butts.

Just looks sterile although it might make for a dramatic B&W photo. Graffiti is against the law most places, just not used to it looking so staged and anyone paying attention to the bylaw . I like where your going but the colours just look off because of that uneven spray look, if the wall was as fully covered as the box it also would make it look better. Just my

I like the composition a lot with the two strong elements balancing the composition. The image looks a little over-processed, and the POV isn't quite right. But, most would have walked right past this, but you were good enough to spot the potential! Go back and re-shot it.

Here's a shot I took a couple of weeks ago with the same idea...no graffiti, just two strong graphic elements in complimentary, bold colors:
