Not a bad shot at all.
Quite a tangled mess in there.
Seeing as the branches cover the entire the frame it almost makes the sun the main subject. Possibly it might have looked better with the sun more off to the left of frame.
Without being there it's hard to say but it appears that a slightly higher f-stop may have helped bring out a bit more colour in the background too and possibly produce a more interesting shape to the sun.
one of the biggest problems with photographers is they are afraid to be creative. now, you have a great start here. but what is it about solidifying two subjects like this? it's interesting, right? well take it further. make it look like something it isn't. find a cropping within these two subjects ((the sun and the trees)) that perhaps makes for an interesting metaphor. maybe the trees and the sun will look like a closeup of a zebra eye.... LOL or something... you know?
Not a bad effort. I've gotten a few shots like this though I'm usually trying to do the moon through the trees. It's a bit of a tricky shot as the sun/moon is so bright and the trees are so dark. Our eyes see a much more interesting photo than the camera can pick up.
