Well ... the first one's crap

But the 2nd one's very appealing for it great use of light and shadow. Furthermore, you've captured the texture of the sand very nicely as well which helps to make this photo stand well above the other.
I like the way the ridges 'walk' our eyes along the scene.

The 1st photo (the crap one ) is too out of focus for my liking and general composition seems lacking any specific meaning also.

So ... Nice job not making both crap there Gem

Lol. No, it's not. Thanks for the feedback. By out of focus, did you mean there's no focus in general or that it's actually out of focus (not sharp)?

Oh, I thought I should point out that it's snow, not sand. Kinda hard to tell cause of the B&W, I guess.

Yes, I meant that it's not sharp enough for my liking.

I get what you're saying now. It mostly caught my eye cause of the pattern. Oh well, not every one can be a winner

I like both shots, but it's true the second one wins. The first shot could be sharper it's true, but I see the cool patterns Gem is talking about and I find them quite captivating despite a bit of softness.

The second shot though is more beautiful and has great texture and light and shadow play as M.A mentioned. It's also one of those shots that could be printed 1,000 different ways with ever so slightly varying versions. I might crop a touch on the right side, about 1/2 inch. It would also look great as a big print.

Thanks for the feedback, Marko. I try to crop everything in a 5x8 manner; at first I tried to crop out the right side but then the bottom would also have to be cropped, which is why I cropped it this way.
