Washington DC at night

Hello everyone,

Here is a picture I recently took while on a family trip to Washington dc (fittingly, during the President's day weekend). I like the picture, but somethings about it don't appeal to me. This is basically how it came out of the camera, only edits are resized (and compressed a little) and my name. I was just wondering what others thought of it. Any comments are appreciated.

Now this is a nice night shot

Maybe not having the city right in the middle of the vertical? Less sky more water? Or vice versa?

Would would have to say the same, not that I know a lot but I would like it more with less or more sky. Other wise it is a beautiful photo.

I think the Washington monument and the Jefferson memorial both compete for my attention and I don't know where the focus of the picture really is. And I think they both lay too far to the edge of the frames, sort of in "no-man's land" territory of the picture. The picture works better if I crop the top and bottom and turn it into a panoramic format pic.

It's also too soft. I didn't have a tripod and was in a rush to take this picture and catch up with my wife and son, so there is a slight blur to it.

Too centred ... definitely agree with the others on that.

I don't mind it being a tad soft but I'm sure it's good enough to be sharpened successfully if you wanted.

I think both main subjects combine in this case to not be distractive at all.

I think you should have more confidence in this photo.

I've noticed a lot of reflection photos out there are centered. I thought it shows off the "symmetry" or something.

There's no doubt in my mind it can work and work well. I think in this case the amount of negative space above and below are too much.
Like all 'rules' there are exceptions.
