    Very nice!

I think I might have shifted the framing down a little - kept the top of the trees on the left side, and moved the horizon line further down to the lower thirds point. But I really like the feel, and the line of ripples - very nice shot!

With Marko here on the horizon third. I think that there should be a little more water or a little more sky. IF you get a chance again try and get the tree in and put more sky and drop the horizon away from the center and down following the third on this.

You'll only get better if you practice and take good notes....but it will happen. Stick around and you'll likely learn from us that have been doing this a while. As Admin I am truly impressed and proud of the quick improvements many members make by taking our feedback seriously.

As a whole this shot does not work for me as the right side is too underexposed (NO detail in the blacks). Basically your camera saw the bright sky and underexposed the trees. Here is an podcast and article on basic exposure.

In general you want a good selection of tones from pure white to pure black. That is not the case here. Please excuse me if i refer you to some podcasts but they will teach you basics that would take too long to write.
Here's one on dodging and burning http://www.photography.ca/blog/?p=100

    Hope that helps

I really like this photo, but I'd crop it into a longer format- I'd personally crop it so that the ripples in the lake are in the centre and foreground, right up to the top part of the photo, removing the sky and the top of the tree to the part where the second tree rises above the first. Does this make sense?

I'm a sucker for that sort of photo though, so that's a lot of my personal opinion/taste speaking.

I think I understand the crop. I'll have my husband read over and see if he comes up with the same thing!

    Thanks again everyone!
