Fall reflection

Ok this is my first post for C&C

Took it on a walk in the park, saw the reflection of the trees in the
puddle of water and thought it would be a great shot!

All comments and criticism welcomed... the only way to learn!
(I've only been at photography for about 3-4 months
not that that is an excuse)

Well spotted! Would it have been possible to stand on the dirt area image left and compose the image so that the [approximate] rectangle of the puddle was running parallel to the long axis of the viewfinder? That might have made for a stronger image, but this one is good nonetheless.

This might work well for selective colouration too; do a mono conversion on the image and just leave the puddle in colour.

This is what I like about photography - people see the world with different eyes. I would have walked past this without even really "seeing", but you did and that's a inherent ability that takes time to learn.

I really like the heavy vignetting in the shot and overall the image has a bit of a toy camera feel to it - I like that. I would agree with Tirediron that a different framing might have worked better and that the green area does compete with the reflection.

Bottom line - I like the shot.

I like this shot as well.... if it was mine I might selectively boost the saturation in the reflection.... just a thought...

I tried to do the shot in B&W and leave the puddle in colour...not sure if I did it well ??


As well I tried the saturation boost - I think its 'too much'


Anymore thoughts
(just as an aside my 'editing' skills need a lot of work )

the selective colouring is cool....

the saturation boost failed... looks like you also increase brightness level as well... look at the cloudy area... a lot of the detail has been lost....

try using a brush and apply saturation to just the foliage and blue areas.... also play with individual colour channels instead of bulk saturation increase across the board...

saturate it so that it looks slutty and fake.... then wind back each channel slowly until you reach a point of believability...

i borrowed this technique from sharpening... sharpen until breaking point (halos) and slowly reduce to the sweet spot..
