You guys are so helpful, so I decided to post another one of my photos. Just for the record, I am using Picasa and Neat Image (if my picture is "noisy"). I can't afford a full version of photoshop but if you guys know where I can get a good trial version that would be great. Maybe a tutorial too...lol. I absolutely love flowers and was trying to experiment with different angles. I noticed that alot of flower pictures I seen were "ariel shots", taken from above the flower. So I tried getting down on the flower's level. Anyway, let me know what you think.

That works; the 'different' angle is often the right one. A couple of thoughts however: I'd suggest re-shooting this at a different time when the light was on the front of the flower rather than the back. The backlighting would be great if it was even, but the leaves image right and the curled petals at the top are causing shadows which I find distracting. I think that cropping some off the top might help as well; the contrast between the sky and foliage is rather drastic.

If your budget won't stretch to Photoshop, you can try PaintShopPro, or Photoshop Elements, both smaller, lighter, cheaper programs that are still versatile enough to meet your needs for a long time. You can also try The Gimp (www.gimp.org) an amazing FREE image editor which is nearly the equal of Photoshop.

Just my $00.02 worth - your mileage may vary.

Thank-you, I will try that free program, and maybe save up for photo shop. I shot this at Public Gardens so I don't think I can reshoot for a while but I will try cropping. Thank-you for the feed back, it is very helpful.

Great flower - love the sharp and interesting central element in the flower but the sky is way too bright and is stealing the flower's majesty.
