Taking the advice everyone provided from my first picture (the flower one) a couple of weeks back, i think i've captured an improved one. C&C greatly appreciated!

Nice effort. Just a bit over-exposed on the LH side (you can see how all the detail has been lost in the petals) but you're getting there. I think the secret here would have been to shoot this one at a different time of day.
Agree with tirediron on the lefthand petal exposure.
I'm also finding this shot a bit too saturated with yellow/orange.
I DO like how the flower is separated from the rest of the blurred bkgd.
