Sorry was a bit tired last night... I hope this illustrates my suggestion more clearly, you could try some different blending modes in photoshop and see what gets the best results for you. This example uses "multiply" as it's blend mode.
The first 'balls' simulate a light source straight on to the object, the second 'balls; moves the light source off axis.
(I hope that's a bit clearer now?)

I know what you mean and first I tried some luminance effect. But I didn't get it work, because mostly one or another picture looked blind but not luminated. But there sure will come another try from me. Thanks for your comment.
