Sigma 18mm to 50mm f. 2.8

With the 35mm equivalent of 27mm to 75mm and macro shooting at all focal lengths this seems to be a great all-around lens.

At 2.8 it is easy to blur out background and with macro you can never get too close. Seventy five mm is also good for portraits. A good polarizer will also cut down on glare and reflections but will cost well over $100 since we are talking 72mm as the diameter.

It is one of the gold ring EX lenses by Sigma and produces great shots with good detail, even at night from a moving car.

How is the build Tegan?

I keep reading about focusing issue's with Sigma... I was interested in picking up their 30mm 1.8 but lots of complaints about back focusing and build quality.

I have their 105mm 2.8 and must admit it's the cheapest feeling lens I own. Having said that it's also one of the sharpest I own too. I mostly use it for macro in manual focus.

How is the IQ at 2.8?

I'm looking for a full frame mid range 2.8 zoom sometime soon.

Well, here is an unprocessed shot at 1/20 of a second at f. 2.8 with the Sigma lens. Any softness is probably more due to shutterspeed.

Build seems to be solid and it has a good weight to it.
