I'd look into a good used Nikon D-60 or 80 or Canon 20D, Good cameras and when you get some $$$ put it into glass. Just my opinion since I was in your situation a year ago.

Wow, I'm kinda new to photography but buying camera gear off ebay scares me. Have you had good success?

You can also find good used equipment at Amazon Marketplace, B&H or Adorama. Ebay scares me as well for anything particularly expensive, but I hear some people have good luck with it.

There are also low end entry level models from all the major manufacturers (Canon, Nikon, Oly, Panasonic, Pentax, Sony). What are you interested in photographing? E.g. if you take your camera outdoors in less than ideal weather you may want weather sealing. If you wear glasses, you'll want a viewfinder that works well for you. Depending on how you shoot, live view or a tilt screen may be beneficial. And of course, make sure the camera feels good in your hands and that you have the right lens for the job in your budget.

My mistake has been seeking new landscapes. I should have been seeking new light.
