Well, I would suggest you talk to any friends you may have who are photographers and ask to borrow a camera rather than actually spending money on one or if none of your friends are photographers see if there's a camera store that would rent you one. If you do end up buying I'd consider moving up to the next level of camera not to look more professional but because it will give you more options.
