Sony Lenses

I have a Sony a200 I want to get a lens for that I could always count on when I am shooting. Just to use it as a second camera when I get my a900, which I plan on.

I know there are a couple of you, well maybe just Tegan, that use the Sony system. If you could get just one lens and keep it on all the time... what would it be?


I ask because I do love my a200. the shots are pretty good.. but I want a faster lens.

Consider the Sigma 18mm to 50mm 2.8 macro for the a200. In 35mm terms that is 27mm to 70mm and the macro is at any focal length. In Critiques the Thru a Window shot was with that lens at 1/10 sec. and f.2.8

Autofocus is noisier than with the Sony lens but it is fast. There are other weaknesses such as very slight light fall off toward the corners at some focal lengths that would, no doubt, be gone in a lens at 3X the price or more but then you would not likely keep such a super pricey lens on the A200.

It does an excellent job on almost all shots and only someone who is super picky, like I am, would notice a few problems in real world shooting. Nevertheless post cures the odd problem such as the common distortion that is present at the widest angles.

I just did some research on the Sigma 18mm to 50mm 2.8 macro. I think my favorite focal range is 50mm (isn't it like 80mm on the a200 because of the sensor size or something like that) so this lens is great.

I am probably going to see if I can find a used one. If not I'll drop the $400, which really isn't that bad at all. I just like to get them used because photographers take care of lenses and I have never seen a bad used lens. I have never bought a new lens, except a kit lens of course.
