    Default The Allanburg Lift Bridge

    - shot this with the m645 using a 55mm lens and Ilford Pan F 50. I cross this bridge each day to get from Niagara Falls ( where I live) to Welland ( work).

This bridge has been struck twice by freighters and re-built. When originally built, the operators were housed in the little shack on top of the arched span, now they are remotely controlled with cameras and sensors placed along the canal.

I really like this, the way the background is completely blown out and the murky foreground reflections. It's interesting to compare your Flickr version and this version. I can see the slight vignette here but not on Flickr. Nice job.

Cheers Mike, seems I have a correction to make - I used my Mamiya m645 and 55mm f2.8 lens for this (same film - Ilford Pan F 50 120 format).

Well not only did I screw up which camera/format I shot this with, it appears I have the story wrong. The Allanburg bridge was damaged in about 2001 and closed for repairs. The bridge just south, in Port Robinson was destroyed about 30 years ago and never replaced.

Very interesting bridge and nice shot. It has a vintage feel to it.

Cheers Runmonty, that was the feel I was going for by using film and the design of the bridge itself.
