Before the eight billion dollar snow festival the security appeared lax at YVR. Now, if you park next to the perimeter fence, security will park right in front or next to you. They won't bother you but they will remain until you leave the area.

No conversation at all. One day I parked the required three meters in front of the east access gate then a small white security car pulled up on the other side of the fence. The guy in the car just sat and stared at me for about ten minutes. A second security car pulled up and stopped in front of me on my side of the fence. Only then did the other guy leave. I thought maybe "Homeland security" was going to show up next. Since that day, I've seen the pattern, they aren't there to do anything but maintain a secure perimeter. I chatted with one guy earlier that afternoon, I was inquiring about the new observation deck within the main terminal. The guy was very helpful and friendly. I expect it'll be Business as usual when the giant ski jump is over
