Wing....

This is a discussion on Wing.... within the Architecture & Man Made (cities, buildings, roads, objects & abstracts) forums, part of the Show your photo (Color) - Landscape & Nature (flowers, mountains, storms etc.) category; It's just a sculpture about 5 blocks from my house...thanks for the nice comments. Here's a shot with both wings ...

Here's a shot with both wings for AntZ.
I'd get the whole thing in, but frankly I only like the wing part of the sculpture and there's just no good way to compose the whole thing without including too may distracting features.

Thanks for sharing. Sometimes its just not possible to not include distractions, which is frustrating when you know it would make a great photo otherwise.

I think the first one is the pick of these because it is slightly sharper and because to me it makes more sense to have just one wing than to have two wings and no body...If that makes sense?

Totally makes sense AntZ...Funny thing is, I took this in for an enlargement and framing as a gift for a friend a couple of days ago and the framer said she remembered this sculpture because she was on the art committee that approved it! She told me a couple of interesting facts I thought were kind of amusing so figured I'd share:

It used to be further down the street and the whole thing is really a huge wind chime with massive pipes as the chimes. It was initially placed right across the street from a huge and expensive condo unit. The residents complained about the noise and in Calgary it's pretty much always windy so you can imagine the racket it made pretty much 24/7....so it was moved further north on 4th street to a more commercial area and the chimes were tied off... now it doesn't make any more noise!
Still looks kind of neat though.....

That's funny, Casil. Roger and I were by there a couple of weeks ago.

Me: Look at this cool sculpture!

*Roger attempts to rattle the pipes*: What is it?

Me: I think its a wind chime. *Attempts to rattle the chimes to a dull sound* Woah! They did not tune these up very nicely.

Roger: I guess that's why they are tied up.

    Me: Yeah. Weird, huh?
