I dig the feeling of emptiness which is duplicated in the poster. Interesting scene - well seen.

Thanks Marko. It's not hard to find empty streets in a town with a population of about 3000. FYI... Galena Kansas is where the movie Cars was inspired. here's a picture of me and my wife with Tow-Mater and the other 2 characters from the movie that's in Galena at an old restored gas station/tourist shop on the old Route 66.

Are you traveling the Great 66? I think you know I just did 66 from Texas to New Mexico last month.

Thank you Rosh for the kind comments.

    AT,
yes I saw some of your awesome shots from your Route 66 trip. They were all pretty cool. As far as me traveling 66, I do it often. it runs through the city I work in, Carthage MO, and the city where we do most of our shopping, Joplin, MO. . Galena KS, where I took the pic is about 40 minutes from my house. there's several Route 66 tourist sites not too far from me.

I don't know why I thought you lived in South Carolina.

The photo gives great sense of place and matches the perceptions I have from the other side of the world of route 66. Nice one Lorey.

Following the comments on this thread I started searching for the places you mention to get a sense of where you live. So many search results took me to the tornado you had a few years ago. I had no idea. It looked devastating and I guess would have taken quite some to time to rebuild. Were you affected at all?

No AT, never lived in South Carolina. been through it a few times though.

    RM,
I live about 10 miles southeast of Joplin. the worst I got was we lost our power here for a couple of days. it was strange though. I had debris in my back yard from Joplin and the Joplin Hospital that was about 13 miles from my home. the windows in the hospital were mostly all blown out and the structure was damaged beyond repair so they had to demolish it and build another one in a different location. it took about a year before things started taking a little shape and some people didn't rebuild for 2 or 3 years after.

I'll post some pictures I took one week after the tornado hit.

This is a helmet from the hospital's medivac helicopter and the hospital in the background.

wow - that is quite some destruction. Your friends daughters were obviously very lucky. It is amazing to think of nature's power and how small we are in the overall scope of things. Thanks for sharing this Lorey.

AT - I wonder if you may be thinking of Barefoot, who I believe lives in South Carolina

Speaking of Joplin and on a much lighter note, a FB friend of mine Greg Swartz, is an actor/director at the Joplin Little Theatre. I always tell him I am so jealous of that little theatre because they put on amazing, fun plays, and they are cheap! Joplin is a relatively small town so they are lucky to have something so special. Granted, Calgary actually has quite a few theatres and some of them are quite affordable, there is just something irresistible about their little theatre.
