I took the liberty of covering up the three distracting lights surrounding the dome...but now wonder if I will get struck down for doing so?

How dare you! The exposure looks good here so I'd say your judgment call was probably correct. Next time though I would just mention that you are a member of this forum and as such demand they turn the lights off for the shot Nice job
