    Default Frosted Rust

Here are some detail shots of a lathe engine that was outside at the Redstone Quarry. If it weren't for the snow, the shots would be merely documentary, but the snow makes them art.

A funny story about shooting these. I decided to experiment with using the snow and beach program setting and shooting jpegs besides the raw files. After tweaking both of these in LR a bit I compared them to what the Olympus jpeg engine produced. So identical you couldn't tell them apart without pixel peeping. Wow. I was impressed. With the snow/beach setting, not so much. Exposure wise it's pretty dead on, but the white balance (in raw) was off and continuous auto focus drove me nutty. Eventually I took it off that and just went with Aperture Priority and +1 stop EV. I shot that way the rest of the day and found it somewhat freeing.

Love these types of shots as well, and you have done a superb job with both. Love the detail and shallow dof used.
    Which lens used WD?

thanks hbg. I mostly use the Olympus Zuiko Digital 12-60mm f2.8-4. It's been rated one of the best lenses in its class and is optically far superior to many lenses costing more. In 35mm terms it has a 24mm to 120mm range which is useful for almost everything I shoot. It's weather sealed as well, so if I ever get a body that is I can really take them anywhere.
