These are Canadian made Cervelo Tri-bikes. The majority of bikes in the IM 2010 race were these Cervelo carbon fibre and very $$$$$ bikes. In the 1st shot, my friend heading out after the swim onto the bike course He was riding a Soft Ride...the only one in the race. I could not believe how light the Cervelos are when I got to pick up Pat;s Cervelo...about the weight of one wheel on my bike! His soft Ride was much heavier but he rides it because it is just much more comfy for his 6'3"frame. About 10 years ago the softrides were the rage but now Cervelos dominated the bikes.
Btw, this was his 9th Ironman Canada race and he is already signed up for #10 next year. I hope I can head out there again to cheer and support!

    Cool ... cycling!
Cervelo's are a nice bike ... noisy though. Lots of echo/resonance from those big tubes.
The Zipp 404's are popular over here too.

Orbea was another popular one out here as well. A lot of the pros were riding these ones. Treks were in there too but I have to say about 75% were Cervelos. Lots of Zipp Wheels but not a lot of bikes that I saw from my photos.
Oddly enough many chose to use the solid rear wheels which considering the high winds (gale force with rain on the course.. especially in the climbing sections...we had a real sandstorm blowing around near the finish) experienced on racing day would have been tough to ride in. I would think it would almost act as a sail in a crosswind and be tough to keep the bike up.
Btw... forgive my lousy attempts at panning...found out it is something I definitely need to work on.

We see a few Orbea's and plenty of Treks out here also. Pinarello is another very popular brand.

Disk or deep carbon wheels like those Zipp 404's or the Reynolds in this last shot are definitely a weird choice if the wind was up. I have Fulcrum Racing 1's which are a very wide, aluminium bladed spoke and they catch the wind plenty if it's breezey at all.

But we are talking about Triathletes right? They are a breed of their own!

Cool, see, I do drop in occasionally. Those Zipps are worth more than my whole bike.
Funny I'd never heard of the Softride until this week, then again here.
Yep, triathletes are weirdos Not like us very sane enduro MTB riders
