    Default Sunset over Heidelberg

    Hello there!

I think most of you know this. You have a place which you want to photograph but everytime you go there either the light isn't right or the weather is wrong. I've been visiting the Castle in Heidelberg repeatedly over the last 2 years when I had the time and wanted to photograph a great sunset over the city. Sure I got sunsets and decent photos but I never got the wow.

Yesterday evening eventually I was rewarded. After all those hot days here in Germany we had some thunderstorms during the day and such abrupt weather changes lets always hope for a good sunset. So yet again I went up to the castle to look over the city. The sky was already filled with nice loose clouds so I setup my tripod with the Nodal Ninja attached to it and waited. Over the next 1,5 hours it was just awesome, constant light changes which ended with this beautiful colored scene. There where many people at the castle but also many of them not even watching this happen, talking to each other or exploring other parts of the castle ground. I can't believe how one cannot stand there and just be awed by natures display. My jaw was down the whole time :-)

    Details:
    - Canon EOS40d + Tokina 11-16mm attached on a nodal ninja 5l for panoramic shots

    - f/11 | 11mm | 3 exp Bracketing

    - 3 vertical shots for the pano

    - Enfuse GUI for DRI blending

    - Hugin for Pano stitching

    - Photoshop for selective Curves (brightnes and contast), selective color and saturation + sharpening

    Hope you like it

    cheers

Wow - that's an awesome picture. Wonderful done!

You are a poor boy - visiting Germany in its hottest summer since nearly 150 years. That's only bearable near our Baltic Sea or in it ;-).

I mentally earmarked this as one I definitely wanted to compliment. Beautifully done and the place looks like it would be all sorts of fun to explore.

Good thing you did MA, otherwise I would have. Great capture, superb framing, and fantastic colors. Well done, Michael!
