Don't know on guess of lens, but would say using tube?
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

And yes, all insects are alive, at least they where, when I shot them.
I'm using Canon 40D + 100mm macro (not the IS) + 36 mm Kenko ext. tube + MR-14EX ring flash for most of my macros.
I like the Snake Fly picture the best but they are all great.
