*sigh* Trust my husband to ask if this is the 6 cylinder model, or the V-12. (He's owned both)
This is a discussion on Jaguar... and not the XK... within the Animals (mammals, birds, insects etc.) forums, part of the Show your photo (Color) - Landscape & Nature (flowers, mountains, storms etc.) category; *sigh* Trust my husband to ask if this is the 6 cylinder model, or the V-12. He had 2 XJS' and we had an XKE, a transition year (1969). I really enjoyed driving that car - rode smooth as glass at freeway speeds, purred through curves, and didn't care what gear it was in when it was going up hill. The last was handy, because the gate on 2nd gear got sticky when it got warm. I just skipped it.
I was always told people who owned E Type's were buying a large phallic symbol they could show girls without them laughing like their other option
Seriously though ... I've only ever seen one E-Type in person ... They actually look small ... until you lift the bonnet and see the length of that V12!
the "E" types were one of the most beautiful sports cars ever, IMHO, and performed quite well if you got rid of the wretched side-draft SU's... one of the most entertaining aspects of the XKE, though, was watching a young lady in a miniskirt getting out of the thing...

Ours was specifically a '69 1/2 marque and had 3 Webers - it was still a straight six. The V12s came in shortly after, mostly because smog control was choking the six's power. Even so, the engine compartment on our '69 was huge, the trunk space fit nothing but the spare, and the passenger compartment wouldn't hold anything except 2 passengers.
We've also both had MGBs at various points. (They actually have a ton of room inside and in the trunk) I never found the SUs to be much of a problem, but balancing them is an art rather than a science.
As for getting out of the car, well, most people are a bit surprised when I unfold myself from something that low. I can look a lot of men in the eye without looking up.
The car attracted attention on the freeway for sure. People would slow down to the speed limit (with a red Jag, I'm going to speed?!?) to look at it. Oh, and did I mention it had wire wheels? I kinda miss that car. Miss the 'B, too.
Got a thing for English machinery then do we Mike? I had a Mini a few years back. Gotta love that A Series engine transaxle setup ... not. Great design work but what a pain in ... well everything to work on! It was a fun little car for a couple of years ... red, sunroof, 5 slot jellybeans.
The E - Types were common with the wire wheels and the 3 sided spinner type hubcap from I've seen in photos.
I've always wondered ... when you polished it ... did it get longer??
Love the details of this feline. You did a good job of compensating for the window
