Common Mergansers

This pair was really quite tolerant of me and the camera which is uncommon. I got off a lot of shots before leaving them be.
Beautiful birds they are....







Added bonus...sure sign of spring when these guys start popping their heads out!
I had to crawl on my belly to get a fairly close shot. He popped in his hole but kept sticking his head out to watch me....lol.

What is the furry guy at the bottom? Gopher?

Yup it's a gopher...they hibernate underground in winter...when the weather warms they start poking their head out. Nice to see them yesterday. And thanks for the comments MA!

Cool looking ducks with some interesting colours. I really like #1 and #3 too. Maybe I'm not very well versed in NS wildlife but you seem to have more variety than we do. It's probably more likely that I just don't have a clue about what's in my own backyard

I just caught spring fever, seeing a Calgary gopher. Happens every year, either a gopher or a robin. The mergansers are very pretty. I even know that the other kind of merganser is the hooded merganser. Nice work and thanks.
