Kookaburra sits on the old tent

This is a discussion on Kookaburra sits on the old tent within the Animals (mammals, birds, insects etc.) forums, part of the Show your photo (Color) - Landscape & Nature (flowers, mountains, storms etc.) category; I figured poor Bambi needed more education on Kookaburra's so here's one from a camping trip awhile back ......

They seem pretty fearless if you can get that close to them..We have whiskey jacks and jays like that.

As you can see ... that's in a camping ground (sitting on my tent) where people tend to feed them so they become more tame.

The kids can pat the ones around my house, and we don't feed them, but I think maybe one of neighbours does.

I can't believe I missed this!! Can you ever forgive me MA:cry-an:?

this picture is adorable. He (she?) totally looks like he's checking out what's going on. will they scavenge at a campsite or stick to just fish?

I am always willing to be educated, it just sometimes you have to get my attention with a stick!

That's ok Bambi. I got over it

I don't think Kookaburra's eat much in the way of fish actually. But they are meat eaters ... large insects, small snakes etc ... that sort of thing.

They are funny ... you hand or throw them a hunk of your BBQ steak and they will beat it to death before eating it
