Photography is more than just taking a picture and freezing the action, or leaving the shutter open. It is more than orchestrating the image with the stroke of a brush. Its the realization and explanation that reality is an isolated experience in which only a specific individual can comprehend during any given time period. - Your Truly!
I have no idea how you catch these things in flight but kudos for a wonderful capture.
It's time consuming but not that hard. Our brains tell us these things are very small and fast because that's the way we usually see them. As such they would prove real hard to capture. The truth is, they can spend up to fifteen seconds hovering dead still in one spot and that's when they're easier prey. There are frustrating moments shooting these guys, you get them all dialed in and a split second before you take the shot they decide it's only a five second hover. I use a 70-300mm lens allowing me to get close without chasing them off.
Thanks for the comments
Great shot!
If you guys that haven't nominated anything yet his month are waiting for something better to come along you might get left out in the cold.
Great work, Michael.
Gosh ML..how did you manage to catch this??? They are so fast!
Great job...knowing what I've learned about them this summer, this is awesomely impressive!
