Snapped this one yesterday..



I noticed you controlled the exposure much better than I. Their breast is incredibly white.

Yeh the whole photo looks a stop over to me. For some reason the camera saw the scene as dark I think and upped the exposure on you. Do you have the exif data on it? Or a link to your picasaweb album where I can view it?

He has very pale feet doesn't he?

He does. I also noticed that the beak is a different shade too. They must be cousins

I got a few more but this gull had the best focus. If I could have combined the focus of this one with the exposure of my next shot I would have been bang on

Well .... the exif data is interesting ...

ISO: 100
Exposure: 1/1000 sec
Aperture: 4.5

Obviously the fstop could have been and should have been higher. Must have been a very, very bright day.
I'm guessing it was an automatic setting and not a manual selection seeing as the shutter speed is so high and the aperture so wide.
I'm sure a quick play in curves would right the exposure somewhat.

They DO look like the same species don't they? Maybe yours is just damn cold!!

Mine was posing ... he walked up and as I raised the camera he turned 180 and then looked back ... it was like he was on a catwalk!

Shot 1 looks awesome on my monitor which has been dulled down after calibration (a topic that will be released as a podcast tomorrow or tuesday)

I wish I could claim it was an automatic thing but no, just my own silliness. Have you seen the other thread about forgetting things... I just finished taking a shot in the shade. I was shooting manual and just spun up the shutter speed to get close to a proper exposure. I had neglected to check the aperture. :( The next couple of shots were better exposed but didn't focus as well. Point and shoot cameras do have their drawbacks...
