Another camera club competition for Nature. Images should have a story, but the judges are obsessed with sharpness. I like the image with both thistles but the purple one is not sharp. Which one appeals to you more? Thanks for taking the time to comment Name: 01 - Missy Mandel - American Goldfinch eating Thistle seed.jpg

The one without the extra thistle for me. The purple/pink competes with bird too much for me. Both are nice though!

The purple colour is fighting with the bird.
    Thistle-free for me please.

Sharpness is important ... especially the eyes. You can have the best photo in the world with blurry eyes, and it's useless. Therefore you really need to use that 2nd image in this case. It also leaves just a little more space on the right for those leaves. Without the thistle, the bird is the star of the show too. Good luck.

Good call. The purple thistle was very distracting to the eye. Nice capture Missy.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there!

I think I might differ a little bit. As much as the thistle is a bit distracting, I find it adds a something to the picture. I find that without the thistle it seems a little too centered to me. With the thistle it balances it out a little bit.
