I was actually shooting something else when this thing kept flying past my head making a loud buzzing noise. I swatted at it and it stopped about two minutes later I heard the same buzzing noise and looked in front of me and there it was. The buzzing noise was from a hummingbird trying to get to the flowers I was standing right next too. For the first time and purely by accident I had the camera set fast and was actually able to capture an image of this rather elusive bird.

Love it Chris. Perfect dof, and lovely sharp detail. Right place at right time sure helps also.

Very nice shot indeed ... Hummers are hard to catch, and you did a wonderful job of it. Love the colours in this shot, very well processed.

yes, the scary part was it was composed on the fly. the camera was set to burst and i pulled 3 shots before it was gone. this was the only good one. To this day I have no idea why I had the camera set so fast 1/800 sec iso 400. The image I was actually shooting was not going to move all that fast it was huge. An elephant to be more precise. It was just truly a matter of being at the right place at the right time and being an accidental genius....

Sometimes just being in the right place at the right time with camera in hand is what makes the shot. That, and of course, a bit of skill behind the camera to get off a couple of quick shots. Excellent results.

Really nice shot! Your timing was perfect on this and those Penstemons really add a lot to the image as well.
