Hotel Lake Critters

I was patiently photographing a beaver out in a patch of Lilly pads, when i heard a splash at my feet, I peeked slowly around my camera, and wow !!!!there was a beaver right below me!!!! I very slowly lowered the camera and got off a few shots. The beaver was happily munching away on some Lilly pads, it would stop and pause every time it heard the shutter, but other wise was not bothered with me being there.









I just loved this shot of this little squirrel,,,he was giving me quite the scolding and kept gesturing with his paws...i think this was the squirrel version of flipping me the bird

oh ya! the ol heart was definitely beating, but he was there long enough that i got to relax, stop shooting and just enjoy the moment, which was nice. Most times I'm so focused on shooting i don't take the time to remove myself from the view finder and just savor these rare moments

This is something I struggle with ALL the time. I love photography! But I also enjoy "living and being in the moment" and this is VERY hard to do sometimes when 90% of your brain is scouting for good light and good comp.
When I'm in a place for a while...i have to FORCE myself to put the camera down and take it all in. On several occasions, once i did that, and DID take it all in, I was so blown away by the surrounding beauty that I have spontaneously wept. Yup, I'm a sensitive dude and can cry easily when I am touched by art/beauty/nature. To me, that's also a huge part of living and I remember my surroundings more and my memories are far more vivid when the camera is down.

So basically - so glad you had the time to take it all in Jude01 as well as capture this set!

ah the rewards of a nice batch of rodents. Isn't it funny when squirrels get all upset? I particularly am a fan of the back feet only dance.

#3 is great. I can agree with the looking outside the viewfinder. I was completely focused in on the water just today and didn't have a clue that heron had landed 20 foot from me, till I glanced up and jumped when I saw something big moving near me.
