    Default Mocking Me

This one was definitely a hard capture. My husband was driving the car forward/reverse along the shoulder of the road plus a couple u-turns just to get near it. I was sitting in passenger seat with both cameras in my lap with the large lenses attached trying to get a shot out window with either one. But then again this is how I have gotten most of my winter shots lately. Had to shoot at iso 1000 just to keep shutter speed up for this flighty little one.

Nice shot! Good on you for even spotting the little guy! Mike Drew, who does a spread in the Calgary Sun on Sundays of his adventures in the countryside, has said that wildlife often just ignores a vehicle and as long as you are in the truck or car they are not so easily spooked. So shooting from the car might not be such a bad thing!

Thanks JAS, and I definitely hear ya' on the vehicle as a blind also. We have gotten so close to wildlife on snowmobiles and four-wheelers also. Just don't stop and get off, for then they are gone.

many people consider these trouble birds, like jays or crows, but I've always loved watching them. They're entertaining. Unfortunately we no longer seem to have many around anymore. used to be tons in my yard and neighborhood, but now I hardly ever see or even hear one. Strange.

    Thanks Realist and Asnow.
Yes WD they are quite rare to see around here also. First one I have seen in years, that is why I am quite excited about it. Was a hard capture with terrible lighting, but at least I got it for the books.
