low res photos using wood

this was a photograph i took several years back and i added the violin cello in the bg. since i've tried all kinds of outputting, i experimented by applying a straight line screen on a23x30 image at 3.5 lines per inch that produced lines about .25" wide. i printed this and used it as a guide for carving out the black areas on 90 strips of .25x1.3x30" strips of wood. i carved out each strip, the black portions on the .25 side of the wood and when finished, i assembled and glued it on marine playwood to produce this image. the spaces between the wood strips are the dark areas. took about 3 weeks to finish

i had this in my mind years ago when i was shooting b&w ads to be printed in newspapers and noticed that by using the regular halftone screens, it looked a little bit muddy so i experimented with screens like mezzotint, and straightline screens. the results were better in detail and contrast when it came out in the papers. but since this was before computers, i inspected the linescreen positives used in making the ads with a magnifier and noticed that
the whites were solid lines and the blacks were very thin lines. the greys were a little bit thinner depending on the grey value. since the positives were 160 lines per inch, i thought if i made this in (3.5 lines per inch) low reolution on an image 20x24 in size the lines would be about 1/4 inch in width. with that idea, i experimented by printing a sample and stripping it one by one and pasted it on 1/4" x 2 x 20 wood. i pasted the printed strips on the 1/4 side and started carving out the black portions and when finished i sanded the pieces of wood and assembled them on a piece of marine plywood and that started it! i think i have done about 50 of these, commissioned by clients.
yes, you've never heard of this before because i think i'm the only one doing this.
this was featured in 2003 issue of the master photographer magazine of the master photographer association of scotland. they took pictures of me while working and the finished samples of work.
they categorized it as digital art in another level.
it is still photography outputted differently.
