"...In reflection of my artistic approach, I have been interested in elements of time, history and memory and the relation which exists between these bodies. More specifically, the linkage of ancestral history with the history of the 'personal'. The fragmentation of memory and the relocation of lost histories to involve the transcendence of the 'self'. In exploring representations of archaism, ritual, ceremony and tradition, I have attempted to examine the nature of the 'symbol' and the significance of 'the gesture' within the visual image and how this relates to its vital essence. In this exploration, I have also been concerned with the overlapping of certain symbols and rites of passage throughout history, culture and religion. My theoretical investigations have led to a concentration of the paralleling of opposites and extremes..."
