Austrian Nights

I named this shot after an Austrian couple of aurora photographers that I ran into while journeying to this location. We introduced ourselves and they told me they had arrived in Ft Smith for a couple of nights, just to check it out. They were travelers, and apparently had come upon the town by random.

Stefan, the man, had stopped at the road and looked up only to see the aurora dancing above. He had only seen it once or twice before, when he lived and worked along the Mackenzie river on a boat, he told me, while I told him that I would take him to one of the spots I like to shoot at.

His wife followed us through the dark trails as I led them to the river, and up onto a hidden beach. The aurora was so active that we quickly mounted our cameras unto tripods and began shooting. Eventually they had to leave, and although I missed meeting up with them the next day I tried tracking them down at the hotel..to no avail, however, I hoped to make up for my absence by naming this print after our meeting (which made my week)
