Patriotism, or something of your country, We have Canada Day Tomorrow and The Americans 4th July, so maybe something that represents your country in some way. Could be your favourite street corner, fireworks from celebrations, flag, your favourite politician, your town or city, anything that makes you happy to live in your Country. Just an idea, see what others come ones people can come up with.

Yup you can. Now I need to start a revolution and see if I can get some photos lol.
Ok the July assignment is on! - Let's get our thinking caps on!
Thanks!
Marko

SLIDESHOW
Hey that's a nice fireworks shot and I liked the slide show as well! :highfive:
Marko
fireworks shots are usually SO hard - nice job beetle!
I must say I've been looking around for 'patriotic images' and I'm finding this one hard....syill I'll try to upload something this weekend.
What setting should your camera be at to take pics of fireworks?
Standing Guard at Sir Isaac Brocks Memorial. One of the Fallen heroes of the war of 1812. I shot this last night, a quick stop on our way to catch the fireworks at Niagara Falls. This monument is one of the coolest I have ever seen. There are four of these guards surrounding the actual monument.

yup - im also finding it hard to find the right subject... i drove past a fantastic old barn in the middle of a field, that was painted like a canandian flag! too bad that was before i found out what the theme was, and the barn is at least 4 hours away.... oh well, i'll keep hunting! :)
Just a question, I live in Canada, so what about a Maple Leaf?
A maple leaf would be an awesome idea. That is true canadian! you could also take wildlife shots for this such as geese, moose, beavers, or any wild animals that you can safely photograph.
i do have quite a few wildlife shots of animals ive stumbled across while driving around canada. heres just a few...
Those are nice! now that reminds me of Canada!
thanks nikki - the moose i caught in northern ontario while on a road trip across most of canada (northern ab - southern ont). the others are from up here in northern alberta.
heres another shot i have, just took it a couple weeks ago when we stumbled across this guy (or rather, he stumbled across the road in front of us, and posed nicely in the ditch for a second, so i could snap this fuzzy shot)
Here is a firework picture that I captured on Canada day!

I like the animal shots Kiley but you probably already know that the eyes aren't sharp in most of them....The owl looks VERY cool but needs more contrast and there is something wonky going on in the background.
That is an excellent fireworks shot FusionFoto :highfive:
I feel bad that I haven't uploaded anything yet....maybe this weekend? :fingerscr
Thx
Marko
I'll put forth an offering with perhaps a slightly different take on patriotism...
This is the Canadian destroyer HMCS Iriquois in Mediterranean, enroute the Persian Gulf in May of this year.

This image shows the Canadian destroyer HMCS Iriquois leading Nato Fleet STANAVFORMED (Standing Naval Force Mediterranean) with Canadian frigate HMCS Calgary astern.

Edited to add: Apologies for the image size, however due to bandwidth and other Internet access restrictions, I'm not able to re-size them. If this is a problem, I'll happly convert them to links.

I guess I'll leave the 'story' open for interpretation
I like your choices tirediron and no problem on the size - each image needs to be less than 150k that's all, and both shots are.
Bahandi i also like this image but the whole image could use some more contrast.
Thx
Marko
Thanks Marko. I'm still struggling in getting to know my camera better. On top of that, my monitor is not calibrated and all the pictures on my screen are so much darker than what I see on my camera's lcd.
As for PP, I can never tell when enough is enough, so I pretty much used the camera's setting to desaturate(sp?) and used photobucket's sharpen option on it.
Care for the original?
One of the things that represents my Country. The Blue Nile falls.
I tried that too but I finally ended up with the dirt from my sensor becoming to conspicous. Especially, since when using lower shutter speed f/22 and below to use slower shutter speed.
but now I have cleaned my sensor and will try to take better pics next time around.
Sure I'd love to see the original!
I quite like this shot Yisehaq Very scenic - I might consider darkening the top of the photo (sky + mountians) though and the treed areas in the center of the photo and dodging the lower left side and lower right side.

here's the original
BTW, I intended to use this and other images for HDR. I thought this was good because it has multiple areas to be exposed differently. Hope I am right.
