Sometimes I think they tell us things are famous here in Aussie to make us feel like the rest of the world gives a crap :)

Actually over here in the UK we hear about the Sydney march every year. London has a big one as well, but the Sydney one is allegedly one of the biggest such events in the world - as far as I know only Brazil has bigger ones.

I bet the one in Sydney is pretty spectacular. I'd love to go to one in NY or San Francisco. Here's a few more that I took:
