Well after 6 weeks of denying anything was wrong and avoiding the Doctor, turns out I have a broken foot after all! :wall-an:
Turns out they don't do anything about it either....except advise me to stay off it...that ends biking season and hikes in Fish Creek for the time being.... :mad:

Sorry to hear the bad news. I could swap you an air cast for your camera since my is off to Toronto for warranty work for 4-6 weeks:D. I guess you'll have to challenge yourself to find this around the house to shoot. Speedy recovery!

I can only assume you pedal with your foot central over the pedal. The ball of your foot should be over the pedal axle so you get maximum power transfer.
Proper cycling shoes also require proper cycling pedals. But a correct pedalling shouldn't require special shoes. Harder sole shoes are an advantage though.
I just got a new set of heavier pedals...not clip ins, just a bit wider...clip ins scare me as I'm just too much of a clutz to even try to unclip in an emergency!
I think the pedalling style had much to do with my choice of footwear this summer. :headslap:
Can I by stiffer bike shoes that aren't clip ins?
Shimano does a shoe in their cheaper range that is sold for cycling but also to be able to walk comfortably in (as comfortable as you can in cycling shoes anyhow)... they might be worth a look.

Here's the reason:
His brother (JB) was out hiking in the mountains with a friend (L) over Thanksgiving weekend and he lost his footing on a scree slope and started stumbling. Keeping cool he tried to arret but to no avail. He tumbled down the slope going faster and faster until he got to the end of the scree and then fell about 3 meters off the side of the slope hitting his head on a rock when he landed.
He then tumbled a bit more and again fell off the edge of another small cliff and again landing on rocks. His friend estimates he tumbled and fell in total about 150 feet between sliding and falling.
His friend L is currently at SAIT taking the EMT course so he chased after him and when he found him he wasn't breathing. He cleared the snow away from his face and was just about to begin CPR when JB came to. L assessed JB and he had a pretty decent sized gash on his head but was alert. Seeing as they were out of cellphone range, and couldn't call for help, L supported JB at times carrying him on his back for 3 hours while they slowly walked back to the car.
When the got to the Kananaskis field station, the rangers took one look at JB and immediately called for STARS air ambulance and they were both evacuated to Foothills hospital via helicopter.
L has a broken rib, numerous bruises and cuts and I think a broken arm as well from taking the same route to get to JB
JB has a fractured skull, greenstick fracture in his leg, fractured sacrum, lots of cuts and bruises, a huge gash in his head that now is full of staples, a shunt in his head to keep the brain swelling down and other injuries. They took him to surgery when he arrived to stop the swelling in his brain. He lost quite a bit of blood also in the ordeal and had to have a transfusion.
He had a camera backback full of camera gear on his back when he fell and they figured that's what saved his spine from being fractured. The SLR he had in his pack was fine...not even a scrape if you can believe it!
The best news is I got an email from J last night and he said his bro is doing so much better. The neck brace is off and he's moving around and has all his faculties which I find amazing with a head injury like that!!

J told me too that L is just so humble about it too...no big deal what he did in saving his friend's life...still WoW's me.

oddly enough at school today was the subject of traumatic brain injuries and after listening to a 2 hour lecture on the subject, jon and I cam to the conclusion that the fracture probably also saved his life because with that kind of injury and no skull fracture, the brain gets compressed by the swelling and fluid causing much more damage. The fracture allowed the fluid to go somewhere and the crack also allowed his swelling brain to not be compressed.
L is back at school and jon told me that his instructor was asking about how and who got them out and his jaw nearly hit the floor when L told him they walked out!
I tell ya, something greater was watching out for those guys!
