Early morning sunlight backlights this little guy as he tends to his web.

Thanks RM. I do have Photoshop and I have a rather vague idea what you are suggesting. This exposure is part of a 5 shot bracket that I tried to blend in an HDR photo. It shows the rays, but there is too much ghosting in the trees and reflections. You can see my effort in my Flickr stream. If I have time, I'll try your suggestion on the weekend (read: if I'm not out Stampeding and/or shooting).
You're welcome. Just to clarify what I am suggesting.
I do like the colour in "Weaselhead looking West". Just make this the bottom layer. Then create a new Silver EFEX layer on top to bring out the rays (high levels of "structure") and then just change the blend mode of that layer to "Luminosity" instead of "normal". If you need to punch up the saturation (as it can get lost doing this process) just "stamp visible layer" and up the saturation on that layer.
Let me know if I haven't explained it well enough. I would love to see the results if you can drag yourself away from the stampede.
Gave RM's suggestion a shot. It combines the best of both versions smartly. Thanks.

Love it MB
I captured this image of Julian Priester when he was playing at the Bus Stop Theatre in Halifax for the Halifax Jazz Festival.... seems to fill the requirement of back lighting.
