Lens hood... Needed???

Hello everyone,

I have a Nikon D3200 and a 18 - 55 mm lens. Given that any lens hood for my lens will be very shallow would it still help prevent lens flare?

The angle of the sun has to hit the lens - when it does, you'll get flare.
Even a shallow lens hood can help - but it all depends on the angle of the sun and how it hits your lens.
Shooting into the sun for example, a lens shade won't really help...but as u move the lens away from the sun and have a lens shade...it will help.
