    Default Publicphotography.org - A celebration focusing on photographers' rights

    This idea comes from Casil in reply to a post I did. This would take several months to set up but since it is the beginning of June I would search for a weekend day that I hope would have some photographic importance in the end of August to say the beginning of October. If anyone is interested lets see if we can get this idea off the ground. The idea is to put a positive spin on photography and photographers. We should try and hold it in as many places as possible and if we get enough interest I will help and inform people how to get word out, how to organize your town or cities event and whatever other info or help I can provide. I have experience in organizing protests and this will be a positive event so it should be fairly easy to get off the ground. So if anyone is interested let me know here or in PM. We can come up with a catchy name and see about getting some corporate interest and media interest. If Marko was interested we could use his site to promote the event. Anyway we will see if the interest is there. I hope so. So will we have a Shoot In?

    Edited by Marko for ease - the site is now live at www.publicphotography.org

    "Shoot In" doesn't seem catch phrasey enough but I'm in. It would be nice if we associated it with the "Photography is Not a Crime" site as well since that movement has a lot of people. I'll push it around Halifax, Nova Scotia if we can get a plan together.

    I could not be any more IN. Al...feel free to run with the idea however you think is best...you have the experience and I can help out in any way you wish. For me it was just an idea and I am so glad you like the thought and are willing to run with it. I am willing to do what it takes to get the Calgary contingent in.
    I would like to see this organized in Britain and the States as well as they have far greater issues with photography. Maybe we just start in Canada and see if it catches on....
    As for a day...how about a famous (or infamous) street or journalistic photographer's birthday?
    Anybody who belongs to any clubs, groups, forums...lets start getting the idea out there...start threads and get people talking!
    We can start a group on flickr too.

    here are some links for other organizations who might want to join the effort;

    CAPA - The Canadian Association for Photographic Art

    Images Alberta Camera Club - Edmonton's Largest Photography Club, Established 1975: Alberta Canada

    Prairie Region of Photographic Arts

    Have not sent anything out yet, I think a well formulated letter could be sent to all clubs/forums/sites inviting them to participate. Any thoughts?

    Great ideas all, Matt you can get hold of them if you want since it is Regional to you and Casil and she has a fabulously well written letter you might be able to use but you will have to check with her. I will work on a basic site and logo over tonight and tomorrow and will post when I get them done I hope no later than Monday morning.
